On 2 July 2025, the European Commission launched the EU Energy & Raw Materials Platform, an online tool designed to support European companies in sourcing energy products and raw materials. The Platform will play a central role in strengthening the competitiveness, security of supply, diversification, and decarbonisation of European industry.
Event Highlights
The launch event opened with a keynote address by Commissioner Dan Jørgensen, Energy and Housing, followed by a high-level presentation of the Platform by Cristina Lobillo Borrero, Director for Energy Security and International Relations at the Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER).
A technical session was then led by the DG ENER team, introducing the Hydrogen Mechanism, providing a preview of its features, and offering a registration tutorial.

About the Hydrogen Mechanism
The Hydrogen Mechanism is the first mechanism to open on the Platform, with registrations starting from 2 July 2025. The first round of operations is planned for September 2025 and will be open only to registered participants.
The Hydrogen Mechanism is a market-based online tool designed to:
Connect demand and supply of renewable and low-carbon hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives, such as ammonia, methanol, and electro-sustainable aviation fuels.
Support infrastructure development by enabling infrastructure operators to test market interest.
Link with financial support, matching participants with relevant products from financial institutions.
European off-takers can place their demand, join global calls for supply interest, and engage with financial institutions for their decarbonisation projects. Suppliers can submit offers, consult aggregated European demand, and connect with financial partners. Infrastructure operators and financial institutions are also invited to engage on the Platform.

To participate, organisations must:
Create an EU Login account.
Sign a Declaration on Honour, confirming compliance with Regulation (EU) 2024/1789 and other eligibility criteria.
